Vancouver siding has to do three things at once: shed rain, manage moisture behind the cladding, and look good for decades. Skye Blue Construction installs cedar, fibre-cement (Hardie), vinyl, and rainscreen systems across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
Vancouver's wet coastal climate makes siding installation unforgiving. The wrong detail behind the cladding — missing rainscreen gap, no flashing at penetrations, wrong lap on housewrap — and you'll have water damage inside the wall within five years. We build to the Vancouver and BC building code: a true drained and ventilated rainscreen behind all absorbent claddings, proper flashing at every window and door, and trim details that don't trap water.
Cedar siding (Western Red Cedar) is the classic Vancouver choice. We install bevel, tongue-and-groove, shingle, and channel rustic profiles, all kiln-dried to reduce movement after install. Cedar needs a penetrating stain in year one and a refresh every 2–4 years for best life — we apply the first coat on every cedar job we do.
Hardie board (fibre-cement) is now the most-installed siding on new Vancouver construction. It holds paint longer than wood, doesn't rot, and is non-combustible (which matters in BC's interface-fire zones). We install Hardie lap, shingle, and panel profiles, with proper clearances to grade and roof lines.
Vinyl siding is budget-friendly and low-maintenance. We install quality brands (Royal, Mitten, Kaycan) with proper trim, J-channel, and starter strip. Not ideal for high-end Vancouver character homes, but the right answer for rentals, basements, and budget refreshes.

How much does siding cost in Vancouver BC?
Cedar siding runs $10–$18 per square foot installed. Hardie fibre-cement $8–$14. Vinyl $5–$9. Rainscreen adds $3–$6/sq ft but is required by code for most absorbent claddings in Vancouver. Free written quotes.
Do I need a rainscreen in Vancouver?
For most absorbent claddings (cedar, fibre-cement, stucco), yes — the Vancouver building code requires a drained and ventilated rainscreen on most wall assemblies. We install a true 10 mm rainscreen gap, not a budget 3 mm furring strip.
Can you replace siding without damaging the interior?
Yes — siding replacement is exterior-only. Interior finishes are untouched. We work top-down, removing old siding, inspecting the sheathing, installing rainscreen, then new siding. Most Vancouver siding projects are finished in 1–3 weeks.
Which siding is best for Vancouver's climate?
Cedar and Hardie both perform well. Cedar needs more maintenance but gives the natural BC look. Hardie is lower maintenance and holds paint longer. We'll spec the right product for your home, exposure, and budget.
Do you handle asbestos siding?
Vancouver homes built before 1990 may have asbestos-cement siding. We can test, and if positive, we coordinate licensed asbestos abatement before any siding work begins.
