Vancouver BC Fence Contractor

Vancouver fence work has to handle rain, moss, and salty winter air. Skye Blue Construction builds residential and commercial fences — cedar privacy, horizontal slat, chain link, custom gates, and repairs — across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

A fence in Vancouver is exposed to roughly 165 wet days a year, UV in summer, and root pressure from neighbouring cedar and cherry trees. We build fences to handle it: pressure-treated posts set in concrete below frost line, galvanized or stainless hardware, and cedar boards of a grade that actually lasts.

Cedar is the most-requested fence material in Vancouver. We use Western Red Cedar, kiln-dried where possible to reduce warp. Standard privacy fences are 6 ft tall with 2x4 rails and 1x6 or 1x4 boards. Horizontal slat fences (modern look, common in new-build Vancouver condos and townhouses) use 1x4 or 1x6 cedar with consistent gaps, framed in steel or cedar posts.

Chain link is the right answer for utility, pets, and budget. We install galvanized chain link in 4 ft, 5 ft, and 6 ft heights, with optional privacy slats. Commercial chain link with barbed top is also available.

Custom gates are where fence contractors earn their money. We build cedar driveway gates (single, double, sliding on track), garden gates, and side-yard gates. Heavier gates get steel framing hidden inside the cedar so they don't sag. Hardware includes self-closing hinges, magnetic latches, and key-coded locks for pool compliance.

Service area: Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Richmond, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Surrey, Langley, White Rock. Most fence projects are scheduled within 2–3 weeks of contract.

Fencing FAQ

Fencing Questions, Answered.

Everything Vancouver homeowners ask about our fencing service.

How much does a fence cost in Vancouver BC?+

Cedar privacy fence in Vancouver runs $50–$80 per linear foot installed. Horizontal slat cedar $80–$130. Chain link $30–$50. Custom gates $500–$3,000 each. We give free written quotes after measuring your property.

How long does a cedar fence last in Vancouver?+

A well-built cedar privacy fence in Vancouver lasts 15–20 years with periodic cleaning and stain. Posts in concrete, hardware galvanized, and using kiln-dried cedar all extend life. We build to that standard.

Do I need a fence permit in Vancouver?+

The City of Vancouver generally does not require a building permit for fences under 7 ft (residential) or 8 ft (commercial), but there are exceptions for pool enclosures and heritage properties. We confirm permit requirements before any work starts.

Can you match my existing fence?+

Yes — we can match most existing cedar fence styles. Send photos and approximate measurements and we'll tell you what's possible within your budget.

Do you repair fences or just build new?+

Both. We do post replacements (the most common Vancouver fence repair), wind-damage rebuilds, gate realignment, and full replacement. Free written repair quotes.

Do you stain or seal fences?+

Yes — we offer optional stain and seal on every new fence we build. Most Vancouver cedar fences benefit from a penetrating oil-based stain in year one, then a refresh every 2–3 years.
